How Sports Journalism Has Changed: From Poker with Babe Ruth to Breaking Aaron Judge’s PR Bubble

Neil Best ’82 (Arts) has been a professional sportswriter for the past 43 years, mostly writing for Newsday. He  discussed how changes in technology, culture, media and money have transformed the ways in which sports figures interact with those who cover them. Neil also answered numerous questions about sportswriters and athletes. He misses the days when writers could freely socialize with top athletes.

The event was held at Bell Market at Bell Works, a location in Holmdel featured in the TV show Severance. It was formerly the showcase R&D location of Bell Labs, then part of AT&T. An Italian buffet dinner at Bell Works was provided by Corbo and Sons.

Two days before the event, Neil cheered on as Cornell's lacrosse team beat the University of Maryland to become NCAA Division 1 national champs! Go Big Red!!
